Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American singer and actress whose dramatic variety earned her acclaim in a variety of genres ranging from period drama to thriller and action adventure. Johansson was the daughter of an architect as well as a producer, was born as a child in New York City. Hunter, her twin brother and She were all the smallest of four kids. As a child she was able to begin performing. Actually, at 7 years old, she had already auditioned for several commercials. She enrolled in the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute shortly after and attended the Professional Children's School, Manhattan to continue her training. At age eight she appeared alongside Ethan Hawke in the Off-Broadway production Sophistry and, at the age of nine she made her film debut as Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson subsequently appeared as a character in Just Cause (1995) but her first breakthrough came with Manny & Lo (1996) which was a film about abandoned sisters who escape. The Horse Whisperer (2000) where she was the role of a teenage girl who has a deformity due to an accident garnered the film critical acclaim. In Ghost World 2001 (as the teenager who is a cynical outcast Rebecca) Johansson received an even greater amount of attention. Smith was offered her first gig as an actor at six years old with the help of her parents. The role was in the Dannon yogurt commercial. As many new actresses have done, she decided to further develop her skills in theater. She took part in different projects in the USA in the midst of making her stage debut. She was a student at the Stonestreet Studios Conservatory of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
